The Coven. An Invocation of Pagan Rituals
Featuring the works of Joseph Haxan and Runegraf, The Coven delves into the ancient, arcane rituals of medieval witchcraft, invoking the secret rites performed in shadows, where
survival and magic intertwined. The exhibition is not merely a display, but an invocation where art and spellcraft become one, conjuring forgotten powers and primal forces long suppressed by fear and persecution.
The show captures the relentless weight of witchcraft’s history, the spells cast in desperation, the rituals borne of survival, and the dreams of freedom shattered by centuries of witch hunts and torture. This haunting legacy influences the works of both Haxan and Runegraf, whose pieces tap into the raw essence of medieval sorcery, calling forth the spirits of witches long silenced.
Haxan's work centers on self-possession, often featuring his unclothed body in dark forests, evoking primal rituals. In contrast, Runegraf's work focuses on visceral street art, incorporating bones, nails, and teeth into his creations. Together, their pieces resurrect a world where spells were woven not for beauty but for survival, where the coven was both sanctuary and rebellion.
The Coven is a visceral journey into the heart of ancient magic, where every piece feels like an artifact from rituals that defied time, fear, and death. It speaks to the enduring power of witchcraft, a force that continues to circle around us still.
During this exhibiton, 9 tattoo artists were asked to collaborate during the show for its 10 day duration, cycling through 1 artist per day. With a live tattoo performance upstairs during the opening and during the shows closing.
